Alpha Delta Chapter

 Our History
The Alpha Delta Chapter of TBS was chartered May 17, 1951, making Ohio University the 28th school to have a TBS chapter.  On July 28, 1951 the first class of Alpha Delta was installed with 14 total members.  Mr. Charles Minelli was the group's advisor.  The chapter installed the first class of the Gamma Omega chapter at the University of Pittsburgh on April 19, 1969.

About Us
Alpha Delta’s main purpose, first and foremost, is to service the bands at Ohio University.  Whether it be providing spats and gloves or an ice machine for the Marching 110, cleaning the equipment room and practice rooms, helping the School of Music with renovations, organizing the music library, or stuffing envelopes for the School of Music Secretaries, Alpha Delta is always there to lend a helping hand.  Beyond helping the Marching 110, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and the University Concert Band, the chapter has helped the Singing Men of Ohio (an all men’s choir) send some of the members on tour, worked and provided meals for Good Works, and helped local Boy and Girl Scout troops earn their music badges.

Every year Alpha Delta has many opportunities to do fundraisers.  The fall is the chapter’s biggest quarter.  We sell uniform items to incoming members during the marching band’s training week and during the season we sell Marching 110 merchandise and Tour T-shirts.  Winter Quarter is dedicated to selling refreshments and snacks to high school kids at the local OMEA Solo & Ensemble.  Spring Quarter is our second busiest quarter.  We sell subs, snacks, and drinks to jr. high students at their OMEA Solo & Ensemble, make and sell homemade jewelry, and help plan and work the All Greek Music Recital (with our music affiliates Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha, and Sigma Alpha Iota).  But Alpha Delta’s biggest spring fundraiser is our all day Jump-a-thon.

Each year we have a formal dinner and dance with our brother chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi during Spring Quarter.  We get all dressed up for an evening of fun, bonding, food, and dancing.  After dinner, the presidents of both chapters give their annual summary of events.  Following the reports each chapter presents the winners of brother and sister of the year.  Our most recent formal was held on a riverboat in Marietta, Ohio.

Excellent joint relations are essential for the twin Alpha Delta chapters, since we are constantly working side by side.  We plan many movie nights, pre-rush events, cook-outs together.  In the spring we have a joint ritual followed by a picnic to end the year.
